Description
This image is compiled out of twenty different angles of the same sitter. It was an experiment to test and see how all five of the individual studies i had made of the sitter, sat together in one image. In the end the painting took over three months to complete, but was well worth the additional effort, and time away from the larger project this is derived from. It helped me to understand a number of things that I could not possibly of foreseen had it been left to my imagination to forecast the outcome. In later years i came to find out that the image has some striking resemblances to a piece of sculpture in India called “The Mask Of Eternity/God” Which made the title I gave the piece even more relevant than I had originally thought – Joseph Campbell describes Mask Of Eternity as a comment on dualism, and when a person steps to either side of the centre/Mask of Eternity you are thrown into a dualist world. Henosis means Oneness, and was taken from a lecture by cognitive scientist Dr John Vervaeke.
