Description
This image was created whilst giving a demonstration to a client about gel plate monoprinting. It uses a resist technique involving oil pastel, which I apply to the print paper before introducing on to the gel plate. Because the oil pastel is oil based the paint in between the oil pastel and the gel plate resists the absorption into the paper, and remains on the plate. Using this resist technique often produces two related, but separate images.
The title was given because it felt like the opposite of an ice cube to me, as if it were about to explode out of the boundaries of red square. The read square itself is created using the resist technique, with a smaller gel plate than the one used to create the blue rectangle.
