Description
The paintings from this mini series in the Panotrait series are experiments with contour maps as a construction tool for the composition. In all seventeen hand painted versions of the portrait which underlies the portrait in this mini series were created, using various medias, such as ink, oil pastel, watercolours, acrylics, oil sticks, charcoal, etc. After creating the paintings I then created a linear contour map of the portrait, and used this as a template to cut the paintings up into/from. So this retains the three dimensional aspect that the Panotrait series all have, but instead of an expansive outward, or geometric contrast of medias, this technique uses the contours of the face to create the illusion of dimensionality.
