Description
This image uses a resist technique involving oil pastel, which I apply to the print paper before introducing on to the gel plate. Because the oil pastel is oil based the paint in between the oil pastel and the gel plate resists the absorption into the paper, and remains on the plate. I then placed my large gel plate over the portrait portion of this image, and then peeled it away after a minute or so. This reveals an image on the gel plate, where the oil pastel has resisted the paint absorption into the paper. I then use various acrylic media to bulk out the image, and the sensitivity of the gel plate surface to add some tactile texture into the image, before I pull the final monoprint.
The fractured quality of the outline of this profile gives rise to the title.
