Description
This is the first large scale image painted from Josh’s sessions using the Roxiva 1 stroboscopic light innovation.
“Message back to the Cave” A collaboration with artist Josh Bowe and Gavin Lawson investigating sensory perception and altered states through the use of Roxiva stroboscopic lighting device. The fractal painting process was initiated by working directly from the stroboscopic light experience. Understanding the process, the science, and the history of stroboscopic/flicker light in arts practice as a tool for creative perception.
Fractal painting represents a significant innovation in both artistic and conceptual frameworks. By capturing hallucinations induced by flicker stimulation, and translating them into a structured visual language of varying strip widths and colour palettes, creates a work that exists at the intersection of neuroscience, mathematics, and emotional expression.
The calculated spatial frequencies, fractal-like organisation, and resonant colour relationships create a perpetual experience that engages multiple neural systems simultaneously. The artwork becomes not just a representation of hallucinations but a stimulus that induces analogous perceptual experiences in viewers, through the careful manipulation of spatial frequencies, fractal properties, and chromatic relationships.
